For more than 14 years, we have felt a deep need for a more objective and quantitative system to measure employee performance. This comes from our frustration with largely-subjective paper-based review systems.

The earliest version of 1872 Perform+™ proved a success when it was piloted with the sales team of major pharmaceutical sales and marketing company in Ireland in 1999.

Over the years, we have refined and enhanced the 1872 Perform+™ performance review system. We passionately believe in enabling employees and managers to have better conversations about performance.

18 Competencies

Each employee is measured on 18 core competencies
and behaviours specific to their job role and responsibilities.

72 Points

The goal of every employee is to achieve a
score of 72 points or less in their performance review (The better the performance – The lower the score).

The core competencies are chosen and ranked in terms of importance by the line-manager with the support of Performance Metrics Ltd.
The line-manager also outlines expected performance standards for each competency, called ‘Agreed Company Targets (ACT’s).
These ACTs are communicated to and agreed with the team as expected standards of performance.

Performance Management Reviews

Performance reviews are essential for the effective management and evaluation of staff.
Reviews help develop individuals, improve organizational performance and feed into business planning.
Formal performance reviews enable management to monitor performance against set standards,
agree expectations and objectives, and delegate responsibilities and tasks.

and organizational training

behavior and to improve communication. Regular reviews allow for the alignment of individual and organizational aims, and foster positive relationships between management
and staff.
Reviews provide a formal recorded snapshot of an individual’s performance, and a plan for future development. Job performance appraisals – in whatever form they take – are therefore vital for managing the performance of people and organisations.

Key People

Fergal BrehonyManaging Director

Fergal has more than 26 years experience working in the pharmaceutical industry. His background is in Sales & Marketing having graduated from The College of Marketing in the mid-eighties.

He completed a Certified Diploma in Accounting & Finance with the ACCA and then an MBA with RCSI & UCD in 2001. He also completed a Diploma in Corporate Governance at UCD Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School in 2009. After spending 16 years with Roche he went on to become General Manager of ALTANA Pharma and Nycomed Ireland from 2001.

Gerry Hussey 1872 Performance Psychologist

Gerry Hussey has been working at the fore front of Olympic and International Sport since graduating from Trinity College Dublin in 2003.

In his role as Performance Consultant, Gerry has coached elite athlete’s for Olympic Games, Heineken Cups, European and World Championships.
He brings an unrivalled wealth of honesty, experience and infectious passion to his work from Golf to Sailing and Olympic Boxing to Corporate Coaching. He will develop a unique metrics platform for 1872Perform+ Sport.

David Killeen 1872 Franchising

David has held the prominent position of Chairman of the Irish Franchise Association since 2009. He is also Managing Partner of Killeen & Associates, Franchise and Business Expansion Specialists. He holds a B.Comm from UCD, Diploma in Strategic Planning through the IMI and is a graduate member of the IITD. As General Manager, Retail Brands Division of Vantage Wholesale David was instrumental in launching the Costcutter retail brand in Ireland.

David brings a unique perspective of the value of 1872 to the franchise market.

Mark Ryder1872 Retail

Mark Ryder has extensive experience in the HR and General Management fields. He has held Senior HR positions in Telecom Eireann (now eircom), Golden Pages and 11890.

He has also been General Manager in eircom’s 11811 and latterly in 11890.

Mark has always had a deep interest in metrics based performance development so his work experience is an ideal fit with 1872 Perform and allows us to offer his years of experience and insight to our customers.

Mark is a qualified HR professional and holds a Masters Degree in Organisational Behaviour from Trinity College, Dublin.

Stephen Doherty Consultant Psychologist

Stephen Doherty, BA (Hons.), HDip, PhD, MBPsS, is a psychologist with expertise in psychometrics, statistics, and behavioural observations. He has worked as a researcher and lecturer, winning several scholarships and funding bids in Ireland and internationally, including, Science Foundation Ireland, Dublin City University, and Enterprise Ireland.

He has experience as a researcher on international collaborative projects including the Centre for Next Generation Localisation and the European Commission. His work with 18|72 Perform is the scientific validation of the psychometrics that underpin the system and the meaningful interpretation of the resulting statistical and behavioural data in a wide variety of applied scenarios.

Brian Taylor Country Manager for Australia

A highly motivated and enthusiastic young professional who enjoys working in a dynamic, fast paced and challenging environment.

Brian has now joined the Performance Metrics team as Country Manager for Australia … Brian is working with his colleague Dr Stephen Doherty to launch 1872Perform+ in Australia. His keen interest in sport has led him to a position as a talent scout for Sports Agents and now looks forward to working alongside Gerry Hussey to harness the power of the 1872Perform+ psychology and methodology in his arena.
